Honoring our veterans
Marvin Runyan is a member of the American Legion and decided to recruit some assistance from his family to place American flags on Veterans’ graves for Memorial Day. A local church youth group has done this in the past, and couldn’t gather this year due to the pandemic. “When dad asked if I could help I knew it was the right thing to do,” said daughter Cathy Riewer, pictured at right with Runyan. The flags were placed in the Verndale Greenlawn Cemetery on May 20. The Runyan family, Ardith Carr and Bruce Jacobson lent a hand to place the flags. “What a great honor to pay tribute to our Veterans,” said Riewer.
