The Bertha Museum has a new roof. The job, contracted to Pete Wallner, was completed last week. The project was paid for by the Bertha City Council and museum funds.

Three Bertha-Hewitt School graduates and a B-H teacher are among the members of the Wadena Chiefs, a team headed to the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Tournament. The games began August 17 and run through Labor Day in Perham and Wadena. B-H grads Mick Stokes, Cory Sandberg and Troy Kapphahn, along with teacher Steve Riewer are among the Chiefs who wound out 34 hits in two games to sweep Detroit Lakes, 14-8 and 18-2.

Returning to the United States after 39 months in the Southwest Pacific is Corporal Carlton Tramm. He is among the first to leave his unit, Headquarters Battery, Division Artillery, on the Army’s redeployment program. On the long hard “road back” from Australia to the Philippines he has seen action at Saidor and Aitape in New Guinea and Luzon in the Philippines. He holds the American Defense Ribbon and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with three combat stars.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Siebert was quite badly damaged Wednesday afternoon when the brakes on a creamery milk truck failed, allowing it to coast down hill on the south side of the creamery and ram into the porch of the Siebert home. No one was in the truck. The big truck coasted down the steep driveway gaining considerable speed before it struck the house.
