Bears Show Growth in Tight Battle with Sebeka
The Bertha-Hewitt Bears hosted Sebeka on Monday night for their second matchup of the season, and this time the contest looked much different than their first meeting.
Earlier in the year, the Trojans claimed a decisive 77-50 victory. On Monday, however, the Bears demonstrated just how much progress they’ve made throughout the season, battling back and forth with Sebeka before ultimately falling 69-61 in an entertaining, hard-fought game.
Sebeka held a slim 35-26 advantage at halftime, but the Bears refused to let the game slip away. Bertha-Hewitt put together a strong second half, scoring 35 points after the break to keep pressure on the Trojans until the final minutes. The matchup was competitive the entire contest, as neither team was able to create much separation for most of the night.
Offensively, the Bears were balanced and aggressive. Brady Rach led the way with 15 points, shooting 6-of-18 from the field while pulling down 10 defensive rebounds and dishing out four assists. Quintin Flynn-Belevance added 14 points on an efficient 6-of-11 shooting night and grabbed four offensive rebounds to help create extra possessions.
Garrett Becker chipped in 10 points, knocking down two three-pointers, while Logan Nelson also connected on two shots from beyond the arc and finished with eight points. Henry Lockwood contributed seven points and three steals, and Trenton Becker added four points and five rebounds in a solid all-around effort.
As a team, the Bears shot 38.1 percent from the field and knocked down eight three-pointers. They were active on the glass, collecting seven offensive rebounds and 30 defensive boards. Bertha-Hewitt also found success inside, scoring 18 points in the paint while continuing to attack in transition...
