Drowning at Lake Charlotte

On Thursday, July 16 at 7:08 p.m. the Todd County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a missing swimmer near the Lake Charlotte beach in Long Prairie. According to a report on their Facebook page, deputies arrived as witnesses were attempting to locate a 21-year-old male—later identified as Sammy Sosa-Acevedo, age 21, of Long Prairie—in the water near the swimming beach. Deputies and members of the Long Prairie Fire Department conducted a search of the area using watercraft, drone and personnel in the water. After an initial search the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was called to assist. At approximately 9:06 p.m. the dive team recovered the victim in approximately 20 feet of water near the swimming beach. The victim was not wearing a life preserver at the time. Also assisting at the scene were the Long Prairie Ambulance, Long Prairie Police Department and private citizens with watercraft. The incident is currently under investigation.
