Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

This letter is regarding the article by Trooper Jesse on page 5 in the March 2 issue of the Independent News Herald.

First of all, I’d like to point out that I feel this law they enforce is just a money-making scheme by the government that violates our rights.

He is right in saying that a seatbelt CAN help save your life just as a pair of sunglasses CAN help keep you from going blind. But I feel the government shouldn’t have the right to fine us for not wearing a seatbelt. They don’t get fined for not wearing sunglasses.

Also, motorcyclists are not required to wear helmets, and I feel riding a motorcycle is much more dangerous than driving a car. Does a government that permits and even supports abortion care about human life?

They’re always quick to tell you how many people died that weren’t wearing seatbelts and the people that lived who were. But they ALWAYS fail to tell you about the people who died wearing their seatbelts and definitely avoid telling you about all the people who lived and those who were even saved because they were NOT wearing their strangulation device we call a seatbelt.

We, as Americans, cannot let this go on if we want our country to be free.

I urge you Americans to recollect or even reread about the founding of our government and this nation, particularly the Revolutionary War and the events leading up to it, and especially the Boston Tea Party.

We shall not give up the freedoms and rights that our forefathers fought and died for without doing the same ourselves.

The sole purpose of the government is to protect our rights, not to take them away.

The point is that we cannot allow the government to take our money for exercising our very own rights.

If we aren’t fighting for our freedom and our rights, we shall soon lose them.
