June 25, 1997

John Pokorney was awarded a plaque for 20 years of service on the Bertha-Hewitt School Board. This was Pokorney’s last meeting. Pictured with Pokorney is School Board Clerk Sharon Howe.

Sue Boehland, a former teacher and currently an administrator at the Freshwater Education District in Staples, was recently named the recipient of the top award given out each year by the Minnesota Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She received the “Outstanding Professional in Family Consumer Sciences” Award a little belatedly as she was not at the state meeting to accept it. Later it was presented to her at Freshwater. Sue has been a teacher and member of the state association since 1968.

The Department of Agriculture of Venezuela, South America, is purchasing 40 purebred Jersey cattle from Minnesota herds. Among those making the sale is Arwin Lippert of rural Bertha. He has sold six of his registered Jersey bulls to the representative of Venezuela. . .
