News from Bertha's Past

25 Years Ago May 10, 1995 The voters of the Bertha-Hewitt school district will select two of three candidates for a seat on the school board next Tuesday, May 16. The candidates are incumbents Douglas Ostlund and David Neil. The challenger for a four year seat is Mary Ward. ********** With one out in the top of the seventh, Aaron Smith’s drive to center field was caught against the fence...that possibly stole a two run home run that could have tied the game for the Bears. The Bears jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but Frazee came back with two runs. Frazee scored four in the third and the teams traded three each in the seventh. Errors plagued the Bears which resulted in four runs being scored. ********** The Bertha-Hewitt softball team moved their record to 8-4 with four wins and one loss last week. They began their week with a 16-6 win over Otter Tail Central. Faith Klebs received her first win on the mound pitching five innings. Becky Ward came in for the save with bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the sixth. Leading the Bears in hitting were Erica Rach and Faith Klebs with three hits each. Nicole Wilhelmi and Staci Sieling each knocked out two hits with one of Sieling’s being a two run home run. ********** The Women’s Club met April 10 at Laura Foster’s home with ten members and two guests present. Lucille Manus and Deloris Symalla were hostesses. Roll call was answered by telling “Why is Minnesota a good place to be in the spring?” Lucille read “The Story of Easter”, “A Tramp in the Street”, and Easter trivia. Deloris sang “Jesus Died on Calvary’s Tree” and the group sang “There’s a Church in the Glen.”
