Dave Ruby who will be in charge of the construction of the new community center in Bertha attended the city council meeting on August 14 to answer questions and to offer his professional opinion on construction matters. Dave Ward, plumbing subcontractor who works with Ruby, was also at the meeting. The first suggestion made was that the city consider two furnaces inside the building instead of a rooftop unit. Ruby explained doing this they would not have to reinforce the roof and he wouldn’t have to climb the slanted roof in bad weather for repairs. And if one furnace went out the second could keep half the building warm, and it’s cheaper to do two furnaces.

What do you do if you are a senior and you are planning on attending college and suddenly discover you failed the high school grad standard math test? What would you do if you found out later that you actually passed and were falsely given a failing mark? Fortunately, none of the Bertha-Hewitt senior graduating class of 2000 had to find out. According to Principal Bob Sieling, 30 students had tests which were scored wrong. Of that 30, six actually passed the test.
