25 Years Ago

June 1, 1995

Many long hours during the winter months were spent by Boyd Smieja as he stripped down and reassembled his 750 Suzuki Quadracer in anticipation of his first race of the 1995 season at Moto City Raceway, 15 miles northeast of Browerville. During this time, he, along with good friend Nic Santer, repaired and painted the frame, replaced weak coils, put on a pair of racing shocks off an Arctic Cat racer, and more.

The Land of Lakes Girls Scout Council will receive more than $40,000 after selling the land and personal property belonging to a Todd County resident who passed away in January. The council was bequeathed 118 acres and the personal property of Wallace Sorby, who lived near Long Prairie and had no immediate family.

Results are in from the Community Education Todd County health walk. The Winter Wonderland Walk featured the new recommendations for active living which include moderate to intense activity most days of the week for 30 minutes or more. The following “walkers” have been drawn for prizes: Bernel Wagner, Long Prairie, trip ticket from Community Education; Jennifer Miller, Eagle Valley, Poppen’s gift certificate; Lorraine Trout, Staples, Battle Lake Outdoors certificate.

Browerville High School class of 1995 held its commencement program on Sunday afternoon at the Browerville school. Even though the weather was cloudy and cold, it did clear up later in the day for the parties.
