25 Years Ago

October 5, 1995

A long-overdue memorial service honoring Korean War Veteran Cpl. Harold Motzko was held on Saturday, September 30, at the Browerville Community Center. Motzko was reported missing in action in 1951. Lorraine (Motzko) Mieloch, Harold’s sister, received the American flag from Steve Wiersgalla, representing the Browerville VFW. The service was organized by Melvin Behnen, a Korean War Veteran after he met Lorraine at a Memorial Day service in St. Paul.

Megan Johnson, daughter of Mark and Kerri Johnson, and Stephanie Zigan, daughter of Richard and Sharon Zigan, participated in the Wadena Area Sweetheart Pageant on September 23. Megan was first runner-up for Wadena Area Little Miss Sweetheart and Wadena Area Sweetheart went to Stephanie Zigan.

Father Thielman received a rousing send-off from students at Christ the King School as he headed off on his annual bike-a-thon to raise funds for Catholic Education on Wednesday.

Jeanette Pesta celebrated her 40-year career with a reception at First State Bank, Clarissa branch, last week. Well-wishers wrote their names and a message on a souvenir apron made by a co-worker and enjoyed cake and coffee.
