Ideas are being sought for parks and trails in northwestern Todd County.

Gloria Nokes, a board member of Todd County Parks and Trails, explained she along with other members and Commissioner Gary Kneisl wish to work with organizations, cities and townships to bring more recreation to northwest Todd County.

“There’s not much for families to have activities. There are city parks, but we would like to do more,” said Nokes.

There is only one county park and that is near Osakis. They would like to fix up existing areas such as the roadside rest in Hewitt. They are also contemplating canoe trails, walking paths and a place to take pets.

The first step is to collect ideas and make a list to work towards. Nokes explained that having recreational areas will help the area’s economy as people will eat at local restaurants and utilize gas stations.

“It will be something for families to do together,” said Nokes.

They are looking to involve the community and ask residents from the Bertha, Hewitt and Eagle Bend areas to attend the meeting and give their suggestions.

“We want this to be something people will use and appreciate,” said Nokes.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, February 20, at the Long Pines Bar and Restaurant in Bertha at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome!
