Postal workers gather to assist one of their own

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds...

Adding a little yard work to their duties was nothing for the members of the Wadena Post Office as they picked up rakes, chainsaws and hopped on lawnmowers to help a co-worker, who is battling cancer, clean up his yard.

Barry Klemek of Hewitt has esophageal cancer. He was diagnosed in December and hasn’t been able to work since. He has completed chemotherapy and radiation treatments and has returned home.

Robin, his wife, is also disabled and they were both concerned about getting the yard cleaned up.

“It’s been a long hard road,” said Robin. “It’s taken a lot out of him.” . . .
