News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago April 12, 1995 In March, it was 13 years since John and Norma Godding took over the Hi-Way Cafe in Eagle Bend. This Friday, April 14, will be the last day their friendly faces will be seen behind the swinging cafe doors. The restaurant will be closed for remodeling and will reopen with a whole new look and twice the dining space. ********** The city of Parkers Prairie had razed four of its damaged buildings by last weekend. All that remained was the clean-up at the apartment building across the street which will also be torn down. The buildings were damaged when the fire hall exploded a week ago. The second story windows at city hall are covered with plywood, but the building can be repaired. 50 Years Ago April 9, 1970 Staff Sergeant Jerome J. Stenger, United States Army, has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service as a member of the United States Army Air Defense Center at Fort Bliss, Texas. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stenger of rural Eagle Bend. ********** The Eagle Bend High School Lettermen’s Club will be the sponsoring unit of this year’s Athletic Banquet. The banquet, which has been popular in former years, has not been held recently due to lack of interest. This year the event will be held on April 30.
