News from Eagle Bend's Past

25 Years Ago

March 6, 1996

Mike Pontius, a junior at Eagle Valley High School, spent the week of February 12-16 at the State Capitol in St. Paul and served as a High School Page for the Minnesota House of Representatives. Pontius assisted in delivering materials in the House Chamber during sessions and attended important committee meetings that involved hearings on issues of concern to all Minnesotans. He also met with his legislator, State Representative Ken Otremba, from District 11B.

On Saturday, February 17, the Eagle Valley High School speech team traveled to Swanville. Members participating were: Crystal Yates, Donna Notch, Taushza Embrey, DeeAnn Durheim, Becca Asfeld, Jill Schultz, Beth Blombeck, Isaac Bradlich, Arin Stoterau, Matt Mittag, Steph Nordquist, Maija Wiltermuth, Rhiannen Stuart, Jill Pontius, Mike Willie, Jessica Olson, Nicole Ahrendt, Amber Benning and Julie Moen. Earning second-place medals were Isaac Bradlich and Maija Wiltermuth; earning ribbons were Mike Willie, Amber Benning, and Taushza Embrey.


50 Years Ago

March 4, 1971

Michael Bolander, age 7, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bolander (nee-Gloria Nordlund of Minneapolis) won first place in a singing contest held on February 16 at the Jefferson School in Minneapolis. His vocal selection was “Let The Sun Shine In”. Michael is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Nordlund of Eagle Bend.

The Browerville Tigers defeated the Eagle Bend Eagles last Tuesday night with a score of 72-49. The Tigers tied the Upsala Cardinals for the first-place position in the Prairie Conference with a 12-2 record. Clarissa finished in third place with an 11-3 record and Eagle Bend followed in fourth place with a 9-5 record.
