25 Years Ago

March 8, 1995

The Eagle Valley Speech Team brought home a second place trophy from the Swanville Tournament. Nikki Ahrendt and Steph Nordquist, Mike Willie, Donna Notch holding “what’s his name” the mascot (third in prose), Amber Benning, Rhiannon Stuart, Maija Wiltermuth, Holly Notch (first in poetry), Isaac Bradlich (ribbon in extemporaneous reading), Wendy Gosiak, Jessie Olson, Annie Winkler (second in prose) and Jason Martinson.

Eagle Valley Senior High Knowledge Bowl competed in the Annual Prairie Conference meet on Friday, March 3 at Swanville. Twelve teams from six schools were present. Team one placed sixth. In ECSU 5 standing team number one is sixth out of 45 teams and team two rates 31. Team one is Isaac Bradlich, Donna Notch, Shannon Bican, Jodi Taggart, Grant Hest, Mike Pontius, Sherry Lundgren, Jeff Holmquist, Travis Drayna and Sarah Booker.


50 Years Ago

March 5, 1970

Sheriff Jim Bain reported this week that David Kulp, 28, now in jail in Madison, Wisconsin for burglary had a notebook found in his pocket showing he had “cased” four Long Prairie businesses and the Eagle Bend Bank.

The Burleene Homemakers Club, The Burleenettes, met at the home of Joann Klassen for their regular monthly meeting. Roll call was answered with each member receiving a Valentine from her secret pal. Four new members joined the Burleenettes. They are: Ardith Ahrens, Betty Fredman, Rosamond Peery and Kathleen Sjostrand.
