Verndale City Council: Major failure at treatment plant handled with due diligence

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Verndale City Council held its regular meeting on January 18.

Maintenance Report

Supervisor Matt Uselman said while he was on vacation they had a major failure at the treatment plant. He called Chase Graba for assistance due to his knowledge of the plant. Uselman face-timed with him from Arizona from approximately 9 a.m.- 2 a.m. Chase had worked nine hours. Kurt Haatkinson from Minnesota Rural Water arrived the following day. Mike Fleisher stayed all night at the plant to ensure the water tower was filled and the city had water.

The failure was a result of a component that allows the computer system to tell the water plant to operate automatically.

“The guys did a great job and their dedication to the city showed that night,” said Uselman.

This allowed the water tower to remain at full capacity for the school and also prevented the health department from having to come due to low water levels. . .
