Verndale City Council: Systematic business is tended to for the city

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Verndale City Council held its regular meeting on February 14. Members Ardith Carr and Tony Stanley were absent.

Frozen Pipes

Stacy Dahlvang of Nu Look Salon (formerly Main Hair) explained her sewer line continued to freeze up, even though she is running a pencil-sized water stream with the 1000 gallon credit. Her bill is still $50 more than that and there are still freezing issues. She asked if they would consider giving her more of a credit so she doesn’t have constant freezing?

Her sewer is shallow and Uselman said they may have to hook up to a different service. The city allowed an additional $28 credit for Dahlvang for the next two months.

Tasha Grangruth of Shear Attraction also has pipes freezing under the sidewalk. Where they freeze is her responsibility. Grangruth was told the valve was stuck and possibly broken. The valve is the city’s responsibility. Uselman will check. It was suggested to wrap it with heat tape. The valve is buried deep but the pipes run up to the building at an angle, not straight across like it’s supposed to. They would have to replace the lines to fix it which is Grangruth’s responsibility.

Public Works

Uselman explained the payloader/wheel rental is about $3000 a month. He has concerns about renting one. The difference of having a loader would be minutes instead of hours. . .
