Wadena County Commissioners: New job classification system will be put in place

by Trinity Gruenberg

The Wadena County Commissioners held their regular meeting on April 5.

DDA Job Classification System

The County Board hired DDA Human Resources, Inc. to conduct a classification and compensation study on the county because it had been 16 years since one had been done and the job descriptions were outdated. A total of 85 jobs were re-written.

The existing system has grades from 45 to 60, a total of 16 grades. The new classification system will be 1 to 26, a total of 26 grades.

The board felt this should have been accepted long ago for negotiations. Commissioner Murlyn Kreklau said they need to stop comparing themselves to other counties and do a better job going forward.

They shared concerns about the cost over the next few years with the changes. There are state and federal grants that help pay some employees as well as the levy. . .
