September 30, 1998

Tiffany Benning won second place in the Hoe and Hope sunflower growing contest. Her sunflower measured 45” in diameter. She won a Pagoda wild bird feeder. Jessica Host won first place in the contest. Her sunflower measured 46 1/2” in diameter. She won a wooden bird feeder.

The Eagle Valley football team played their most inspired game of the season but fell short as they lost to the Upsala/Swanville (USA) team 21-12 last Friday in Eagle Bend. The Rebels defense played with fire and determination to show that the team could tackle with some emotion and desire. Leading the defense in the game was Kipp Greenwaldt with 16 tackles, Jesse Hayes came up with 8 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception for his best defensive game of the season.

50 Years Ago

September 27, 1973

Cousins Patty Baker and Tim Sobotka were crowned Clarissa’s new homecoming queen and king at a special coronation program held last Thursday evening at the high school gymnasium. Patty is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Baker and Tim is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sobotka.

Mrs. T.G. Nelson will be honored on the occasion of her 80th birthday at the United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 30. Her children and grandchildren are sponsoring the special open house during the hours of two until five p.m.
