by Coach Heidi Brandsma On Tuesday, October 14, the Verndale Pirates cross-country team competed at the Park Region Conference meet, hosted by Otter Tail Central and held at Balmoral Golf Course.  We were greeted with cold, rainy conditions, but overall, the Pirates rose to the occasion and ran well. The Verndale Pirates battled hard on the road Tuesday night but came up short against Ogilvie, falling 24–12. Ogilvie struck first in the second quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run from Brody Smith, followed by a successful two-point conversion on a pass from Xander Kimble to Keden Felde. The victory moves the Bears to 7-1 on the year and earns them a share of the District Championship alongside Cromwell-Wright—marking the first district/conference title for the program in 15 years.
