25 Years Ago

March 24, 1999

Clarissa Chief of Police Jon Barber said vandals driving a mid-1980s car with a loud muffler were spotted Saturday night shooting paintballs and what authorities believe to be pellets of bb’s. The vandals drove through Browerville and Clarissa Saturday night shooting at houses and businesses.

Pictured is a heifer calf, which is about three weeks old, belonging to the Don Zimmer family. The mother of the calf broke her leg before the calf was born. The cow had to be butchered and the calf removed by C-section and it survived. “Tiny” the calf stands 21 inches tall. Another calf born two days after Tiny already stands 33 inches tall.

50 Years Ago

March 21, 1974

Clarissa was well represented by its high school instrumentalists at the district music contest held last Tuesday, March 12, at Eagle Bend. Eleven solos and ensembles received ‘A’ ratings and will go on to Regional-State competition on May 4 at Brainerd.

Last Saturday, Clarissa High School placed second in the invitational speech contest at Staples. Ten schools were represented and the first place trophy went to Staples, second place went to Clarissa and taking third place was Aitken.
